leh, August 22 : In a heartbreaking incident near Durbuk in Leh, at least six people, including two children, lost their lives after a school bus skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge on Thursday. The accident also left 22 others injured, many of them critically, according to officials.
The bus, which belonged to Lamdon School in Leh, was en route from Leh to Durbuk when the tragedy occurred at around 11:30 AM. The vehicle lost control and plunged into the gorge before it could reach its destination.
District Magistrate Leh, Santosh Sukhadeva, told Rising Kashmir about the casualties and the severity of the injuries. “Six persons died and 22 are injured, many of them critically. They are being brought to Leh via chopper service,” Sukhadeva stated. The critically injured are being airlifted to Leh, with both the Army and District Hospital in Leh mobilized to provide urgent medical care.
The rescue operation, which began immediately after the accident, is nearly complete, with authorities working tirelessly to ensure all those involved receive the necessary assistance.
