Srinagar, Jan 15: A delegation from the Central Lal Chowk Traders Federation, led by Vice President Imtiyaz Ahmad, met Dr. Owais Ahmad, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd Wednesday to discuss pressing issues affecting the business community in the heart of Srinagar.
A statement issued here said that the traders, accompanied by the President of Masjid Noor, Court Road, Lal Chowk, raised concerns about the growing menace of stray dogs in the area. The delegation highlighted the safety risks posed by the increasing number of stray dogs, which have become a source of fear for both residents and visitors.
In addition to the stray dog issue, the traders also called for improved street lighting in Lal Chowk. The existing streetlights were described as inadequate, particularly after dark, when poor illumination creates safety hazards for pedestrians and shopkeepers alike.
The delegation’s concerns were met with a positive response from Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmad, who assured the traders that immediate steps would be taken to address both the stray dog menace and the street lighting issues. He expressed a commitment to ensuring a safer environment for the local community and businesses.
“The Commissioner’s willingness to listen to our concerns and his assurances of prompt action have reassured us,” the delegation said in a statement. “We appreciate his people-friendly approach and look forward to seeing improvements in the near future.”
The traders also took a moment to commend the SMC for its quick response during the recent snowfall, ensuring that roads in the area were cleared swiftly, allowing businesses to continue operations without disruption. The traders also appreciated the prompt action by the SMC in clearing snow from roads in Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas during recent snowfall.
