Srinagar, Sept 01: To give a flip to the trade in Kashmir, the valley’s business community is gearing up for several initiatives to promote the trade in Kashmir at national and international levels.
The president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Javed Ahmad Tenga revealed that for the first time, a business conclave was likely to be held in Kashmir.
Similarly, trade bodies are also considering several international exhibitions to showcase Kashmir’s art and craft to steer a demand for Kashmiri products in the international markets.
“We are making endeavours and considering all important prerequisites for enhancing the trade in the valley not only at the local and national level but also at the international level. We are making all relevant efforts to see the trade in the valley flourish”, KCCI president Javed Ahmad said.
Javed said that a business conclave was soon to be held in Kashmir for the first time which is expected to give a boost to the trade in J&K UT.
“For the first time, we are organizing a business conclave in Kashmir to put our businesses in the spotlight. Apart from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, Jammu Chamber of Commerce will also be a part of the conclave,” Javed Ahmad said.
KCCI president said that to make up for the losses incurred by the business in the valley, efforts were being made to boost the trade in UT at world level.
He said that the chamber was planning to hold international exhibitions to push the trade. He said that the Kashmir art and craft had a worldwide reach and an aura of uniqueness yet a lot needed to be done to give it a profound platform at all levels.
“We are indulging in several initiatives to boost our trade at the international level. We hope that things get better. We are planning to hold four international exhibitions which include Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, wherein we will showcase the Kashmiri handicrafts and horticulture related trade will be our focus”, Javed Ahmad said.
Adding, “I recently had a meeting with the Indian ambassador in Saudi Arabia. They have proposed the date for the exhibition which is likely going to be the middle of October.”
Pertinent to mention here, the KCCI delegation recently had a brief meeting with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha wherein the trade body briefed the Lt Governor on several initiatives and endeavors considered to push the business in the valley not only at the local level but also at the national and international level.
Javed Ahmad said that during the meeting, LG was briefed on several initiatives considered by the chamber to promote trade and business in the UT.
“We had a meeting with the honorable Governor Manoj Sinha and it was a fruitful meeting. We discussed several issues. We are contended with the meeting and Lt Governor’s response towards us. His approach was very positive and overwhelming”, Javed said.
