Kulgam, June 22: CPI(M) leader M Yusuf Tarigami on Thursday expressed deep dismay over the recurring electricity crisis tormenting the people of Jammu.
“The stark absence of a proactive approach by the authorities in tackling this pressing issue is not only disconcerting but also indicative of a callous disregard for the well-being and comfort of the residents,” he said, adding that the power department’s “grand promises”, once held with hope, have been reduced to mere hollow assurances, leaving the populace ensnared in stifling heat and impenetrable darkness.
“The installation of smart meters, originally intended to alleviate the suffering, has unfortunately only exacerbated the situation, intensifying the hardships faced by the farming community, students, and ordinary citizens alike. The magnitude of this systemic failure cannot be underestimated. It is an affront to the fundamental rights of the people, denying them access to a basic necessity of life – uninterrupted power supply,” he said.
“It is now imperative that the authorities shed their complacency and take immediate and decisive action to rectify this dire situation,” the CPI(M) leader said, adding that the government must promptly intervene and wield the full extent of their powers to resolve this crisis that has left countless lives in disarray.
The restoration of hope and normalcy in the lives of the affected residents should be a matter of utmost priority, he said, adding, “The residents of Jammu deserve better – they deserve a life free from the shackles of power outages, where their aspirations can be nurtured and their potential realized.”
Tarigam also expressed dismay over the “inadequate” supply of ration in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “Right to food is a universal right and every individual must have access to adequate food. CPI(M) appeals to the government to ensure adequate food supply to Jammu and Kashmir and increase the monthly subsidised quota of ration to each household.”
