Srinagar, June 14: Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Sanjay Jaju, today reviewed the functioning of the Ministry’s media units in Srinagar, including Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Akashvani, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) of the J&K Government.
During the visit, Shri Jaju conducted a detailed inspection of DDK and Akashvani Srinagar and held extensive interactions with officials and staff.
He laid special emphasis on the need to create region-specific and culturally resonant content, urging teams to develop programming in local languages to deepen audience engagement and enhance regional outreach.
“Public broadcasting in a region like Jammu & Kashmir must not only inform but also inspire,” Shri Jaju said.
“By promoting local languages, expanding news content, and leveraging our platforms, we aim to build a stronger, more inclusive media presence that truly reflects the voice and diversity of the region.”
While reviewing Doordarshan Kendra’s operations, he called for expansion of news bulletins to keep citizens well-informed. He also showed keen interest in launching new projects—particularly serials and films on DD Kashir—to showcase local stories and talent.
Highlighting the growing role of digital platforms, Shri Jaju stressed the importance of popularising the WAVES integrated OTT app, which curates audio-visual content from Doordarshan and All India Radio. He urged increased promotion and youth engagement with the app to strengthen its reach.
He also emphasized the strategic role of DD Free Dish in sensitive areas like J&K, noting its ability to deliver free and factual information to even the remotest households. He called for efforts to enhance viewership and access across the Union Territory.
For more effective government communication, Shri Jaju highlighted the need for stronger coordination between DIPR J&K and central media units. This, he said, would ensure uniform messaging, improved dissemination of development stories, and broader outreach of citizen-centric initiatives.
The review meeting was attended by Secretary Information, J&K Government Muneer-ul-Islam, Director PIB Srinagar & RNU DD News Shri Qazi Salman, Director Information J&K Nitish Rajora, and senior officials from CBC, DDK, and Akashvani’s programme and engineering wings.
