Srinagar, Mar 21: India’s leading Group of Newspapers newspaper ‘The Statesman’ has taken over the management of premier multi lingual United News of India (UNI) agency. The new management has embarked upon a plan to revamp and expand news operations, besides upgrading its communication network and software technology.
It has been decided to run UNI, which was established in 1959, on professional basis and senior Journalist Sheikh Manzoor Ahmed, who hails from Kashmir, has been given responsibility of a Consultant Editor (News).
Other senior mediapersons are also being roped in to meet the rapidly evolving media and digital landscape Sheikh Manzoor has served as diplomatic Correspondent as well as Editor of the Urdu New Agency, besides Chief of Bureau of Kuwait News Agency.
A statement said, the management is eager to make all the three services-English, Hindi and Urdu more credible and reliable so as to give comprehensive coverage to domestic as well as international events.
“The purpose is that re-born UNI to prove professionally relevant and a leading news service provider in the country. The plan is also to strengthen other services like economic, sports and Photo services.”
Director Vineet Gupta is taking serious and keen interest in its revamping plan and finalising revamping plan undertake massive transformation plans to evolve new methods and tools for information collections to help provide valuable subscribers accurate and unbiased news reports, it added.
