Srinagar, May 12: In an eagerly awaited electoral event, over 50,000 young voters from Srinagar district, constituting a fraction of the 17.4 lakh eligible voters, are set to exercise their democratic right on Monday.
Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, the Returning Officer for Srinagar Parliamentary constituency, said that all necessary preparations have been meticulously completed to ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral process.
In an exclusive conversation with Rising Kashmir, Dr.Bhat disclosed that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) along with polling staff have been dispatched to their designated polling stations. He passionately urged voters, particularly the youth, to actively participate in the electoral process and cast their votes.
Special polling stations have been established with a resounding message of inclusive democracy, emphasizing the significance of every single vote. A comprehensive mass awareness campaign was conducted, primarily targeting young voters, to encourage them to exercise their franchise in favor of their chosen candidates.
The Election Commission of India has introduced pink, green, and young polling stations to invigorate the democratic spirit. Pink polling stations, exclusively managed by female staff, aim to provide a comfortable and inclusive environment for female voters. Similarly, young polling stations will be operated by youthful individuals, fostering a dynamic electoral atmosphere.
Furthermore, provisions have been made for employees with disabilities at polling stations to accommodate persons with disabilities, ensuring their participation in the electoral process.
Dr.Bhat issued a fervent appeal to the populace, especially the youth, to turn out in large numbers and actively engage in this democratic exercise. Over the past two months, the administration has conducted various Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programs to educate citizens about the importance of their vote.
With a staggering 17.4 lakh voters registered in the parliamentary constituency, optimism abounds for a robust voter turnout on Monday. Expectations are high for a significant participation rate, reflecting the vibrant democratic ethos of the region.
