Srinagar, June 27: Srinagar City Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, along with SMC commissioner Athar Amir Khan held a press conference on Tuesday to address important matters ahead of the Eid ulAdha festival. They announced that the city has made all necessary arrangements for the proper disposal of animal hides and other waste generated during the festival.
Mayor Mattu expressed concerns about water scarcity in Srinagar, as farmers have started irrigating their fields. He assured the public that he has taken up the issue with the concerned department. Additionally, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has been instructed to regulate water distribution and increase the number of water tankers to ensure an adequate supply of drinking water for the residents.
During the conference, Mayor Mattu emphasized the ongoing repair of street lights, particularly around shrines. He mentioned that this initiative aims to improve visibility and safety in these areas.
Mayor Mattu was accompanied by Commissioner SMC, Athar Amir Khan, who stated that all the mentioned services are completely free of charge, and people are encouraged to take advantage of these facilities.
Commissioner highlighted the issue of improper disposal of animal waste, mentioning that such actions could lead to legal consequences. To address this, the department has provided contact numbers of drivers who will collect sacrificial waste from door to door.
Regarding the street lights, Commissioner Khan explained that the ESCL company is responsible for maintaining functional lights for seven years, and the required funds will be provided to them over this duration.
In response to the water shortage, Commissioner SMC stated that more water tankers will be deployed before Eid. Additionally, a project worth 1.60 crore has been sanctioned under the Armit 2.0 scheme to collect raw water from the Indus River. This project, currently under consideration, is expected to provide water to the city for the next 20 years.
In an effort to keep the city clean, the commissioner announced the addition of 150 vehicles, including 100 Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and 50 Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV).
The Mayor and Commissioner urged the citizens of Srinagar to utilize these services and contribute to the cleanliness and well-being of the city.
