A pregnant woman, who had to be carried on a cot across a snow bound road in Silapathar Nambla to reach a health center from her home in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, gave birth to twins at SDH Uri.
The residents of Silapathar Nambla in Uri said that the pregnant woman had to be carried on a cot for over 2 kilometers owing to the closure of road due to snowfall in Silapathar Nambla Uri.
The Silapathar Nambla is a remote area of Sub Division Uri of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Locals said that this is the third such attempt when a patient was carried on a cot in Uri subdivision this week.
Naib Sarpanch Nambla, Noor Alam told Rising Kashmir that the road from Nambla B to Silapathar is closed due to snowfall last week.
“The local administration including the PMGSY department of Sub Division Uri failed to clear the snow from the road due to which people of the area suffered badly especially patients,” he said.
The Naib Sarpanch said that the locals have already informed the local administration about the situation in the area but till date no action has been taken.
Block Medical Officer SDH Uri, Dr. Mohammad Ramzan told Rising Kashmir that the patient arrived on 3rd February and was admitted at sub division hospital, Uri.
“The woman delivered twins on 4th February and was discharged on 5th February on request,” Dr. Ramzan added.
The locals appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to intervene in the matter.
“We appeal to the administration to take strict action against the contractor and instruct the PMGSY department to clear snow on the road immediately so that people of the area do not suffer more,” Noor Aalam, Naib Sarpanch Nambla added.
He said that the contractor was supposed to clear the snow in the area.
Meanwhile AEE PMGYS, Khursheed Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the road from Nambla B to Shilpathri is yet to be blacktopped and the department has cleared snow upto one kilometr.
“The area witnessed several mud slides at several places, which pose a risk to clearing the snow and potentially damaging the machinery. The locals also advised us not to clear the road. The road needs protection wall and then the blacktoping but that can’t be done right now this winter,” he added.
AEE PMGYS however said that he will personally visit the area to investigate the issue.
