Srinagar, Aug 22: The three-day training programme on “general management for fisheries enterprises” for Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs) kick-started on Tuesday at Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-K here. It is sponsored by National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
The program was inaugurated by Prof Dil Mohammed Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-Kashmir. The inaugural session was attended by Miss Bilkais Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies J&K; Rajesh Gupta Joint Secretary National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC); Pawan Kumar from NCDC; Scientist of Directorate of Extension and participants from Bangus Valley Fish Farmer Producer Organisation (FFPO).
Prof Makhdoomi presented an overview of FFPO programs and highlighted the role of FPOs and FFPOs to support traceability in the agriculture value chain for the benefit of both producers and consumers. He highlighted the role of MANAGE, the National Extension Institute. “We have SAMETI at the state level which is acting like mini-MANAGE as for the capacity building of BOD, CEOs and FPO is concerned,” he said, adding, “SKUAST-K is always boosting the morale of youth and is imparting training for generating the income and livelihood for unemployed rural youth.”
Miss BilquisWani, Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies UT of J&K, congratulated the organising team of SKUAST-Kashmir and NCDC for conducting this need-based program and said this training program will help farmers to learn the methods and techniques for running a successful and sustainable business. She highlighted the role of cooperatives and briefly spoke about the cooperative acts and said that the main aim of FPOs and FFPOs is to uplift the poor and marginal farmers.
On the occasion, an FPO report was released by the chief guest. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Pavan Kumar from NCDC, which was followed by the beginning of technical sessions that would last for three days.
