Budgam, Nov 08: In a significant development for the farming community in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, SKUAST-K (Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir), KVK Budgam (Krishi Vigyan Kendra Budgam), NSP Shalimar (National Seed Project Shalimar), and the Division of GPB Wadura have come together to distribute oats seeds as part of the HADP Project (Development of fodder resources for UT of Jammu and Kashmir) and the Tribal Sub Plan (AICRP on seed crops).
On November 8, 2023, farmers from Gariand, Haripora Haran, and tribal farmers from Ringzabal village in District Budgam received this crucial support aimed at enhancing fodder production and subsequently improving livestock farming in the region.
During the distribution event, Dr. Bilal A. Lone, Programme Coordinator of KVK Budgam, assured farmers of the provision of scientific and technical knowledge essential for enhancing fodder production within the district. This collaboration is expected to not only empower farmers but also strengthen the agricultural sector in the region.
Dr. Gowhar Ali, Assistant Professor at NSP, SKUAST-K, emphasized the adoption of scientific methods for fodder production. These methods, once applied, will not only boost farmers’ income but also help them enhance the overall quality of their livestock. The agricultural community has high hopes for the positive impact of this collaboration on their livelihoods.
Dr. Sabia Akhter, an SMS Agronomy, played a key role in educating farmers about the best practices for oats crop cultivation. Stressing the importance of following these guidelines diligently, Dr. Akhter aims to ensure better productivity in the farming sector, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
This joint effort between SKUAST-K, KVK Budgam, NSP Shalimar, and the Division of GPB Wadura has the potential to revolutionize agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir, empowering farmers and enhancing the region’s livestock farming industry.
