Srinagar, July 04: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU)-II Srinagar presented a charge-sheet before the Special Designated NIA Court in Srinagar, charging a terrorist associate and an active terrorist. The case, registered under various sections of the law, pertains to the seizure of objectionable items during a routine checkpoint inspection earlier this year.
On January 10, 2023, a police party at a checkpoint in Regal Chowk, Srinagar, stopped a scooterist, identified as Farzan Ferooz, a resident of Frestibal Pampore, for a routine check. During the inspection, the police discovered objectionable items concealed in a blue bag carried by Farzan Ferooz on his scooter. Failing to provide a valid explanation for possessing these items, a case was registered under relevant sections of the law at the Kothibagh Police Station, and an investigation was initiated.
Further investigation by the police revealed that Farzan Ferooz was transporting contraband heroin, Indian currency amounting to Rs 9,50,000, and pages/matrix sheets featuring the letterhead of the LeT terror outfit. It was found that Farzan Ferooz was acting on the instructions of Owais Ahmed Mir, a LeT terrorist based in Pakistan, with the intention of carrying out terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, a motorcycle with the registration number JK13H-2452 was found to have been utilized in terrorist activities and was subsequently seized under the UA (P) Act.
As the investigation progressed, it was discovered that Owais Ferroz, an active terrorist and resident of Frestibal Pampore, was evading arrest in connection with the registered cases. The authorities have submitted a report to the court, requesting the initiation of proclamation proceedings under section 82 and 83 of the CRPC to facilitate the arrest of the absconding accused.
While the investigation of the case has been closed under section 173 of the CRPC, the involvement of other individuals cannot be ruled out. As a result, the investigation will continue under section 173(8) of the CRPC.
This development marks a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, as law enforcement agencies strive to dismantle terrorist networks and thwart their nefarious activities.
