Srinagar, Feb 4: A two-day seminar on “Scientific Beekeeping” organised by agriculture production and farmer’s welfare department Kashmir Tuesday began at Kashmir Haat Srinagar.
The seminar is sponsored by National Bee Board Under National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM). The seminar attracted Beekeepers, Farmers, Stakeholders, Students and Unemployed youth.
The Programme was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Kashmir Mohammad Ilyas Khateeb. While addressing the event Director Agriculture said that the program is aimed to promote latest trends and technologies in the field of apiculture besides financial assistance schemes for farmers.
He highlighted the significance of Beekeeping in enhancing the farm productivity and sustenance of rural livelihoods. He described Beekeeping as a promising agri- allied activity. He said that under HADP Bee Keeping would touch new heights in terms of economic sustenance and employment generation. The farmers were informed about financial incentives, including 80 per cent subsidy on Beekeeping units, aimed at bolstering the sector in the region.
The programme will continue tomorrow with training sessions on colony management, honey harvesting disease prevention techniques for the participants. Deputy Director Agriculture central Waheed-U- Rehmaan, Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar Manohar Lal Sharma and other officers were also present in the event.
