Ganderbal, July 01: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary on Tuesday termed the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra as a “festival of Jammu and Kashmir,” reflecting the spiritual unity and shared heritage of the region.Speaking to reporters after paying obeisance at the Holy Cave and reviewing arrangements at Sonamarg, the Deputy CM emphasized the significance of the Yatra, which begins from a base camp in Jammu and culminates with the sacred darshan in Kashmir.“This Yatra is not just a religious pilgrimage; it’s a festival that brings together the spirit of Jammu and Kashmir. The hospitality of our people is known across the world, and we have inherited this from our elders. It is our responsibility to protect and preserve this heritage,” he said.During his visit, Chaudhary conducted a high-level review with senior officials and lauded the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for developing an excellent track for pilgrims. “I personally witnessed the track. It’s well-built, and I believe in the coming years, it will be even better,” he noted.Highlighting the government’s comprehensive involvement, he said that besides the Shrine Board, various departments including Power Development Department (PDD), Jal Shakti, and Rural Development, among others, are actively contributing to the smooth functioning of the Yatra.“I’ve also suggested that departments should install banners to display their efforts and achievements so that the yatris know how much work is being done for their safety and comfort,” he added. When asked about the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, the Deputy CM said “Leke rahenge. Chheen ke rahenge. Bilkul nahi rukenge.” (We will take it. We will snatch it back. We will not stop.)The Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9, with lakhs of devotees expected to undertake the challenging yet spiritually fulfilling journey to the sacred cave shrine.
