Budgam, Aug 31: Over the past two weeks, the Budgam Police have seized 31 vehicles and arrested four drivers, involved in illegal mining activities within the Budgam district. The police have also filed three FIRs regarding these cases.
A police official said that as part of their ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, the Budgam Police have seized 31 vehicles utilized for unlawful transportation of minerals, which comprises 11 tractors, 18 tippers, and 2 JCBs.
“Four drivers were arrested for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during this period. Additionally, three FIRs have been registered at the police stations in Magam, Khag, and Chadoora within the district,” official said.
He said that this proactive approach to curb illegal mining has been actively taken up by all the Police stations of District Budgam along with the Mineral Department. Budgam Police realised fines to the tune of lakhs of rupees against illegal extraction / transportation of minerals.
