Baramulla, May 16: People’s Conference president Sajad Lone on Thursday vowed to end the culture of filing FIRs and verification in Kashmir.
He was addressing a massive rally in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district which many believe was witnessed for the first time since August 2019.
The rally, where Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari joined him and sought people’s votes for Sajad, saw several other senior leaders attending the workers’ convention.
Lone claimed this rally was the biggest political rally in Kashmir in recent times, with more than a lakh people joining the workers’ convention. “The public has shown their power to those who made Kashmir hell in the past,” he said.
In the past two elections of 2014 and 2019, JKPC has witnessed a surge in vote share. However, this year, four former MLAs of north Kashmir have extended their support to him. In addition to this, several DDC and other activists also joined hands with Lone.
When asked about the burning issues of Kashmir, Sajad said he will end the culture of filing FIRs and verification for Kashmiri youth. “I will strive for a future for Kashmiri youth that will give them equal rights to what youth in other states of India are getting,” he said.
The PC chief said he has frequently advocated that Kashmiri youth are being punished for crimes they never committed. “I have continuously stated that it takes the blood and sweat of Kashmiri youth to secure a seat in any examination, and in some cases, they have been denied jobs because their parents or uncles made mistakes in the past. I am seeking an end to this culture,” he said.
Sajad further said, “It is all because of the National Conference government, which first gave birth to it through violence after mass rigging in the electoral process in 1987, and after that, they never addressed it, despite sending their MPs to parliament for 40 years.”
Lone appealed to the people of north Kashmir to give him a chance to serve them, promising that he will change the landscape of north Kashmir.
