Srinagar, June 01: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous on Wednesday said the role of women in the better and peaceful future of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be ignored in any way.
The determined, brave and motivated women here have, despite various trials and hardships, come forward to shoulder the critical responsibilities, Shameema said, adding, “Besides, they are taking a lead in the movement for the restoration of abridged rights of people.”
While addressing a meeting of the Working Committee of Women’s Wing District Srinagar at the party headquarters here, Shameema said, “Post-2015 situation has been marked by widening gender disparity in the region. Rising unemployment, development deficit and deepening uncertainty have affected everyone in the region but women are the worst sufferers of them. Prevailing political or social issues have had a devastating effect on the dignity and lives of women.”
Provincial President Women’s Wing Er Sabia Qadri also addressed the meeting. Apart from party affairs and organizational activities, people’s problems and the current political and democratic challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir were also discussed in the meeting. Women social workers from the Batamaloo constituency joined J&K National Conference on the occasion.
In her address, Shamima said, “Many organizations and self-styled leaders are coming to the fore to divide the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, but success is possible only through unity and speaking in one language. In this case, we have to reject those elements who want to divide us into groups through various tactics.”
She said that along with the restoration of democracy, the struggle for the return of special privileges can be fought only when the National Conference is strong because it is a public representative party which is the people’s own party and which has its roots in Jammu and Kashmir.
Er. Sabia Qadri said in her address said that strengthening J&K National Conference is the need of the hour. “There is no doubt that the National Conference is the sole guarantor of the state’s interests and for this, we have to maintain close contact with the people, besides highlighting the problems of the people and solving them,” she said.
She said that the women’s wing has always watered the values of the National Conference and is like a strong pillar in the party. She further said that the women’s wing of the party has played a historic role for the party at every critical juncture & will continue to work at the ground level to strengthen the party in the future. On the occasion, the women who joined the National Conference were welcomed and garlanded by the functionaries.
