Srinagar, Oct 22: Following the deadly Gagangeer terror attack, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, stated on Tuesday that the security grid must be further strengthened to ensure zero terror incidents and facilitate rapid social and economic development in the region.
Presiding over a security review meeting at the Gagangeer project site, LG Sinha interacted with officers and workers from the Project Implementing Agency. During his visit, he chaired a meeting with police, civil administration, and security agencies to address pressing security concerns.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of securing vital infrastructure projects across Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the need for a multi-pronged, foolproof mechanism to enhance coordination with project implementing agencies to prevent security breaches.
“The safety and security of workers and officers engaged in key infrastructure projects is the highest priority for the government,” he asserted. LG Sinha highlighted the necessity for stricter access control and regular patrolling around project sites. He directed security forces and police to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations proactively to eradicate terrorism in the Union Territory.
The Gagangeer attack, which took place on the evening of October 20, resulted in the deaths of seven employees from APCO Infratech, an infrastructure company working on the Z-Morh tunnel along the Srinagar-Leh highway. This strategic project is vital for maintaining year-round connectivity between Ladakh and the rest of India.
