Srinagar, July 07: Light to moderate rain showers persisted across the plains of Kashmir on Friday, with the Meteorological Department predicting the continuation of prevailing weather conditions until July 9 in the region.
Sonam Lotus, the Director of the Meteorological Department in Kashmir, informed Rising Kashmir that intermittent weather, characterized by light to moderate rainfall, is expected to persist in Kashmir until July 9. He also advised farmers to postpone spraying activities in orchards during this period.
Lotus stated, “During the next 24 hours, the weather will remain cloudy with the possibility of light rain in the plains and over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.” He further mentioned that heavy rain showers are anticipated over most parts of Jammu and certain areas of south Kashmir from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, moderate rain showers are expected over parts of central and north Kashmir in the next 48 hours.
The cloudy weather in Kashmir led to a drop in day temperatures, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 21.0°C and a minimum temperature of 16.8°C. The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir experienced the coldest temperatures, with a high of 12.0 degrees Celsius and a low of 10.2°C. In south Kashmir’s health resort of Pahalgam, the maximum temperature reached 14.7°C, while the minimum temperature was 10.1°C. Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 32.3°C and a minimum temperature of 24.3°C. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 20.6°C, while Banihal experienced a maximum temperature of 22.4°C and a minimum temperature of 17.9°C.
According to the traffic spokesman, subject to fair weather and road clearance, the SANJY Convoy /LMVs (Light Motor Vehicles) Passenger/Private Cars will be permitted from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW-44), allowing traffic to flow from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa. The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) in Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban before releasing this traffic. Similarly, vehicular movement on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road will be allowed from both sides, facilitating travel from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa. LMVs will be followed by HMVs (Heavy Motor Vehicles), allowing vehicles from Minamarg to Srinagar between 07:30 hrs and 11:00 hrs. LMVs followed by HMVs will also be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1pm and 5pm . No vehicles will be permitted after the designated cut-off timings.
On Friday, the Mughal Road, which connects Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was temporarily closed due to landslides near Ratta Chamb. However, the road was promptly cleared of debris by authorities, and traffic resumed its normal flow.

Meanwhile, vehicular movement on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides tomorrow viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 6 am upto 6 pm. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, he added.
