Anantnag, Feb 04: In view of adverse weather forecast, health authorities in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have proactively shifted 24 expectant mothers. from hard-to-reach areas to hospitals. The officials revealed that the Expected Due Dates (EDDs) of the pregnant women fall within three days,
Dr Mohammad Yousuf Zagoo,Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag, told Rising Kashmir that as per the directions of Secretary, Health and Medical Education, special arrangements were made during the onset of winter for pregnant mothers.
He said district administration Anantnag has made all necessary arrangements in health institutions in hard-to-reach areas like Kokernag, Verinag, Shangus, Mattan and Sallar.
“In light of inclement weather conditions, 24 pregnant mothers with Expected Due Dates (EDD) within the next three days were shifted to different Peripheral Hospitals of District Anantnag and are under observation,” he said, adding that control rooms at both district and block levels are already operational.
Zagoo said that they have mobilized Ashas, who maintain constant communication with pregnant mothers in their areas.
“We shift expectant mothers to the nearest health institutions based on weather conditions, managing them accordingly to avoid emergencies during inclement weather.”
An official said that in the interiors of Kokernag, where snow accumulation is more and vehicular movement becomes challenging, expecting mothers were pre-emptively shifted to hospitals with due dates approaching.
“The families have cooperated, making it possible to keep these pregnant women under observation in hospitals here and elsewhere in the district,” he added.
