Srinagar, May 27: Amid heightened tensions along the International Border (IB), Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand, on Tuesday SAID that ‘Operation Sindoor’ is actively underway, warning that Pakistan cannot be trusted and vowing a strong response to any cross-border provocation or infiltration attempt.
Addressing a press conference in Jammu, IG Anand said the BSF remains on the highest alert and has maintained a robust level of operational preparedness across the border regions.
“We cannot let our guard down. There are credible inputs suggesting the enemy may attempt mischief, whether through cross-border firing or infiltration. We are vigilant and ready,” he asserted.
Reiterating BSF’s firm stance, Anand said: “Pakistan remains an unreliable adversary. Operation Sindoor is ongoing, and we are strengthening surveillance systems to ensure maximum vigilance along the IB.”
He lauded the role of women personnel in frontline duties, including Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari, who has shown exemplary courage while manning forward posts. Anand also announced plans to name a post in the Samba sector after Operation Sindoor, and two others in honour of fallen martyrs.
The IG cited a recent major infiltration attempt in the Sialkot sector, where 40 to 50 suspected terrorists tried to cross into Indian territory under the cover of Pakistani shelling.
“We launched preemptive strikes and inflicted heavy losses, forcing the adversaries—including Pakistani Rangers and terrorists—to retreat,” Anand said.
He further revealed that Pakistan continues to provide cover fire to facilitate infiltration attempts. “We are receiving consistent inputs indicating that Pakistan is planning such misadventures. However, we have successfully foiled their designs,” he said.
IG BSF Anand said that BSF, in close coordination with the Indian Army, is addressing the growing threat of underground tunnels used for infiltration. We are monitoring every inch of land to counter such threats, he said.
Regarding the broader security situation after the April 22 terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Anand said Operation Sindoor has showcased BSF’s aggressive and proactive posture.
“Whether along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri or the IB in Jammu, we have remained on the front foot. Pakistani Rangers, meanwhile, have largely stayed confined to their posts,” he said.
IG Anand detailed how the BSF targeted and destroyed several terror launch pads in Akhnoor, Samba, and R S Pura sectors, specifically naming Loni, Mastpur, and Chabbra.
“On May 9 and 10, Pakistani forces resorted to unprovoked firing in Akhnoor. In retaliation, we struck the Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked launch pad in Loni and caused significant damage,” he said.
Anand said that the drone threat remains serious, as low-flying drones have been used to drop explosives on BSF posts, resulting in the deaths of three personnel.
“We are scaling up our surveillance and integrating advanced technologies to counter this. The Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS), operational since 2017, is being further enhanced,” he said.
IG BSF also underscored the force’s commitment to civilian safety and welfare. We actively encourage farmers along the IB to continue agricultural work. Our personnel ensure their safety, and we also carry out civic action programmes to build trust and morale,” he said.
“BSF is the nation’s first line of defence. We never provoke, but if provoked, we respond with strength and precision. Our vigilance remains firm and unwavering,” he said.
On the occasion, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chitterpal Singh added that Pakistan also used drones to drop weapons and target villages like Abdullian.
“In response, BSF destroyed around 72 Pakistani posts and 47 forward positions. Thankfully, there was no damage to BSF infrastructure or assets,” he said.
