Srinagar, May 12: Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah on Sunday presided over the International Nurses Day celebration at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, and addressed the theme “Our Nurses Our Future”.
Alongside him, Prof Dr Iffat Shah, the Principal/Dean of GMC Srinagar, and Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, the Administrator of Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, were present, along with various Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents, faculty and other healthcare professionals.
In his address, Dr Abid lauded the invaluable contributions of nurses and assured continued support and empowerment for the nursing fraternity. He expressed gratitude for their tireless efforts in providing compassionate care, stressing the importance of collaboration to strengthen the healthcare system.
Other speakers echoed sentiments of appreciation and respect for nurses, recognising their vital role in the healthcare system, especially amidst unprecedented challenges. The event celebrated the dedication and resilience of nurses in delivering quality healthcare, highlighting their pivotal role during various crises, including floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and natural disasters.
A touching rendition of the song “We Will Overcome” resonated deeply with the audience, symbolising unity and solidarity within the healthcare community. A documentary showcased the exemplary work of nurses in adverse situations, serving as a poignant reminder of their selfless service and sacrifice in safeguarding public health and saving lives.
