Bandipora, June 26: Government Girls Middle School Onagam on Wednesday organised a function to commemorate International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking.
DySP DR Bandipora, Ahmad Shafee (JKPS), who was the chief guest on the occasion, delivered a thought-provoking speech. Emphasising the importance of character and career development in the modern era, Shafee urged students to channelise their efforts and energy towards achieving both goals.
The function served as a platform to raise awareness about the perils of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, harnessing the collective efforts of educators and students to address these pressing societal challenges, the school said in a press release.
By integrating educational, artistic and spiritual elements, the event fostered a comprehensive understanding of the ramifications of substance abuse while highlighting the significance of character development and academic pursuits in navigating the complexities of the modern world.
The resounding message echoed by the speakers and the artistic presentations underscored the imperative for students to rise above the influence of detrimental influences, embrace virtuous company, and chart a course toward a future marked by resilience, integrity, and personal growth.
Earlier, Javaid Jawad, headmaster of the School, delved into the causes and consequences of bad company, shedding light on its impact.
He said the Girls Middle School Onagam community stands united in its commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and values necessary to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society. “Through such impactful initiatives, the school remains steadfast in its dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals and fostering a culture of compassion, awareness, and empowerment,” he added.
The event also featured a poignant performance by students who presented a song penned by renowned poet Rafiq Tahir Kawcheki, portraying the devastating repercussions of substance abuse.
Salim Mustafa, a fifth-grade student, delivered recitations of holy verses from the Quran, adding a spiritual dimension to the gathering.
The proceedings were skillfully conducted by Uzma Altaf, a 7th-grade student, contributing to the seamless execution of the event.
