JAMMU, Sept 21 The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, on Saturday said that previous governments and rulers were afraid of Pakistan, but now Pakistan is afraid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and this is the reason that there is no firing on the borders.
Addressing a rally at Akhnoor, Shah said, “Previous governments and rulers were afraid of Pakistan and had no courage to reply to Pakistan. But now Pakistan is afraid of PM Modi,” and added, “Now there is no firing on the borders as Pakistan knows very well that if it fires one bullet, India will respond with ten bombs.”
Shah, during his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, also addressed rallies in Pir Panjal, Mendhar, Surankote, Rajouri, and Kalakote. He criticised the NC-Congress alliance, accusing them of conspiring to revive terrorism and separatism in J&K with Pakistan’s backing.
“NC-Cong will revive terrorism in J&K, and they also have the full backing of Pakistan for this,” he said, further stating, “BJP will wipe out terrorism from J&K and establish permanent peace here.”
Shah reiterated the BJP’s stance on Article 370, attacking NC’s promise to restore the revoked article. “NC has said that it will release jailed terrorists and stone pelters and bring back Article 370,” Shah said, challenging Rahul Gandhi and Congress to clarify their stance. “Rahul Gandhi and Congress must clear their stand over this, as I have been repeatedly saying this for the last month.”
Shah also took aim at the region’s political families, stating that Jammu and Kashmir had suffered for 35 years under the rule of the Abdullah, Mufti, and Gandhi families, resulting in the deaths of 40,000 people and curfews lasting a total of 3,000 days. “J&K witnessed curfew for 3,000 days, 40,000 people were killed,” he said, accusing the three families of crushing democracy and suppressing Jammu. “These families discriminated against Jammu for decades and did not allow its people to grow or be part of the democratic process.”
Speaking at Rajouri, Shah emphasized that the upcoming election in J&K is about ending the rule of the Abdullah, Mufti, and Gandhi families. “For 75 years, the Abdullah, Gandhi, Nehru, and Mufti families have ruled and crushed democracy under their feet. But under PM Modi, democracy has reached the grassroots, with Panchayat elections bringing power to the people.” He added that these families had prevented the region’s development by avoiding democratic processes like Panchayat elections.
Shah praised Modi for breaking this political hold, stating, “Today, 30,000 youth in Jammu and Kashmir are on the path of democracy. In the coming days, these youths will emerge as MLAs, MPs, and even CMs.”
He also attacked Farooq Abdullah, saying, “In the 1990s, when terrorism erupted, Farooq Sahab was enjoying himself in England while our children were being martyred. Jammu and Kashmir were shut down for 3,000 days, and development came to a halt. Abdullah’s family is responsible for this.” Shah questioned Abdullah’s opposition to the reservation system for Pahadi, Gujjar, and Bakarwal communities, accusing him of depriving them of development opportunities for years.
Shah vowed that BJP would ensure reservations for these communities without affecting the existing benefits of the Gujjar community. “They (the Opposition) are saying that the reservation given to Gujjars and Pahadi Bakarwals will be removed. But even if your fourth generation comes, we will not let it happen. We will ensure reservation not only in jobs but also in promotions. Dream big! Don’t settle for Class-1 jobs for your children; aspire for them to become DGPs or Chief Secretaries,” Shah said.
In Surankote, Shah continued his attack on the Congress and National Conference, criticizing Rahul Gandhi’s “Mohabbat ki Dukaan” narrative. “Rahul Gandhi talks about love, but from his ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan,’ orders for terrorism are issued. They say—hold talks with Pakistan. But there will be no talks with Pakistan until it stops terrorism. The only dialogue will be with my hill children,” Shah declared.
Shah also reassured voters of the BJP’s commitment to economic development and social welfare, announcing various schemes for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The eldest woman in every household will be given an annual sum of Rs 18,000. Ujjwala beneficiaries will receive two free cylinders, and the price of the cylinder will be reduced to Rs 500. The PM-Kisan scheme will increase from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 per annum.”
Taking a dig at Mehbooba Mufti, Shah recalled her statement regarding Article 370’s abrogation. “Mehbooba Mufti had said that if Article 370 is abrogated, there would be no one to shoulder the Tiranga. I must tell Mehbooba that her party won’t get five seats in the upcoming elections,” Shah said.
He concluded by urging people to reject the NC-Congress alliance and give them a befitting reply.
