Srinagar, Oct 12: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said the new government in Jammu and Kashmir will prioritise the rehabilitation and return of Kashmiri Pandits with dignity and respect.
Taking to reporters after the celebration of Dussehra with Kashmiri Pandits here, Dr Farooq said, “We will bring together Kashmiri Pandits, Dogras, Kashmiris, Jammuites, Buddhists and everyone living in J&K to foster unity. We want Kashmiri Pandits to return and lead dignified lives once again. I believe the time has come for their return.”
The NC president further said the residents of Jammu should understand that we are not their enemies. We will include them in our journey toward good governance, he said.
“Sher-e-Kashmir Ka Irshad, Hindu Muslim Sikh Ittehaad. There is the importance of this slogan, which calls for unity among all sects and communities,” Dr Abdullah added.
When asked whether political dignitaries had been invited to the oath ceremony, the former chief minister said, “Yes, all have been invited, but we still need to communicate the dates to them.”
The former Member of Parliament, however, said they have not yet received a date from the Raj Bhawan. “Let’s allow the President’s rule to conclude before the new government takes over,” he said.
Dr Farooq said the Chief Minister designate Omar Abdullah presented letters of support from the NC, Congress, CPI(M), and four independent candidates, formally staking a claim for government formation.
The National Conference and Congress alliance achieved a resounding victory in the recently held J&K Assembly polls, securing a total of 49 seats. The NC emerged as the dominant force, clinching 42 seats, while its ally, the Congress party, won 6 seats.
