Srinagar, Jan 15: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the nation will forever remain indebted to the veterans who have protected India and continue to contribute to its growth and security.
Addressing a gathering at Akhnoor on Veterans’ Day, Sinha paid tribute to ex-servicemen and attended a commemorative event presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
“I bow my head in gratitude to all the veterans, valiant jawans, Veer Naris, and the families of our Armed Forces’ brave-hearts,” Sinha said.
He emphasized that the country is deeply indebted to its veterans, who have safeguarded the nation from enemies and remain vital to its continued progress and development.
Sinha reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of Armed Forces personnel and their families. “Soldiers protecting our borders are the guarantee of the nation’s security and prosperity. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the welfare of soldiers and veterans,” he added.
He also highlighted that Akhnoor holds the indelible legacy of the courage and sacrifices of veterans. “The 108-foot high Monumental National Flag and the Akhnoor Heritage Museum, inaugurated by the Defence Minister, will inspire future generations and remind us of the selfless devotion of our brave soldiers and their families.”
Sinha further remarked that a martyr’s house is a sacred space that must be respected by society. “Both the administration and society must express their gratitude by fulfilling their responsibilities toward those who sacrificed everything for the country, ensuring they live a life of dignity and comfort,” he said.
Additionally, Sinha noted that several welfare programs have been introduced to support the education and career development of veterans’ children.
The Lieutenant Governor also paid tributes to the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, during the event.
A two-minute silence was observed to honour the martyrs of the Armed Forces. Mobility aids, including motorized wheelchairs and retrofitted scooties, were distributed to veterans and Veer Naris as part of the occasion.
