Srinagar, Dec 16: In a major operation against drug traf-ficking, security forces and police in Rajouri district seized 5.5 kg of suspected heroin valued at crores in the international market. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, officials said.
Addressing the media at the District Police Lines (DPL) Rajouri, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwa, said that they have recovered narcotics worth crores and have dismantled a major drug traffick-ing network in the area.
“This is a major success for the Rajouri police. We are in-vestigating the source of these drugs and their intended destination. All aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined,” SSP Sikarwa said.
He commended the collaborative efforts of the police and security forces, the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to help curb illegal activi-ties and maintain law and order.
The accused have been identified as Sajan Kumar (25), son of Om Prakash from Sher village, and Subash Chan-der (36), son of Pashori Lal from Kaneti village, were ap-prehended during a late-night joint operation conducted by the Army and police in the forward villages of Sher and Kaneti near the Line of Control (LoC).
“The operation thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics from across the border in the Nowshera sector,” SSP Si-karwa said.
He explained that acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the transshipment of contraband, the Jhangar Battalion of the 80 Infantry Brigade, in coordination with Nowshera Police, launched a swift and precise operation that led to the arrests and seizure.
SSP Sikarwa also said that all angles, including a possible terror link, are being investigated. “We are looking into the possibility of a terror connection. Once the investiga-tion is complete, the case will become clearer,” he added.
He further noted that the area has been under close moni-toring over the past few years, with various awareness programs conducted to engage and educate the public.
“The success of this operation can also be attributed to the cooperation of local residents, who reported suspicious activities. This growing public support is vital in our fight against the drug menace,” SSP Rajouri said.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Sunday, the Border Security Force (BSF) intercepted a Pakistani drone carry-ing nearly half a kilogram of high-grade narcotics along the international border in Jammu’s Arnia sector.
