Srinagar, Oct 22: The Mughal road, connecting Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed due to fresh snowfall on Sunday. The officials revealed that restoration and repair work on Jammu-Srinagar highway was completed.
An official from the traffic department said in view of the prevailing weather conditions, traffic has been suspended on both roads. No traffic will be allowed on the highway on Monday,” he said.
The traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar highway was suspended for a second consecutive day on Sunday for repairs in Ramban district and repair work was carried out on Dalwas point where the road stretch was reduced to a single lane following landslides triggered by heavy rains on October 16.
“Repair and maintenance work is currently underway on NH-44 at Dalwas on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. It is advised to avoid traveling on this route,” he said.
A spokesman said that repair and maintenance work going on at Dalwas on NH-44, People are advised not to take any journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW till the restoration work is completed
Meanwhile, a traffic police spokesman said subject to fair weather and better road conditions on Friday, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs/Load Carriers will be likely allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, he said.
On Sonamarg-Leh road, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0730 hrs. to 1100 hrs.
Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, the spokesman said.
He said SFs Convoy, plying from Srinagar to Kargil, shall leave Srinagar at 0800 hrs. SFs Convoy plying from Drass to Srinagar shall plan their movement in such a manner so that Civil Traffic doesn’t get disturbed.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday predicted light rain and snowfall over higher reaches at scattered places. Director MeT, Sonam Lotus said weather is cloudy today and will remain partially cloudy also on Monday.
“On October 24th to 27th Fair to Partly Cloudy. Poor visibility in Morning Hour, however there is no forecast of any major rain, snowfall till 27th October in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” he said.
Lotus said there is forecast of light spell of rains on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Himalayan region and farmers are advised that weather is not favorable for harvesting & all outdoor activities during the same period.
