Srinagar, Dec 26:  Like the rest of the country, the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department is going to  conduct a mock drill in all hospitals for an emergency response to deal with Covid-19 cases, on December 27.
The mock drill will be held to ensure the operational readiness of the Covid-dedicated facilities, with a specific focus on oxygen plants, ventilators, logistics and human resources.
Spokesman Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Mir Mushtaq said just like in other hospitals in other parts of the country, a special mock will be conducted across hospitals in Kashmir valley.
“We will check oxygen supplies, facilities, oxygen concentrators, cylinders, ICU facilities, Covid-19 wards, testing facilities and other related facilities,” he said.
He also said that oxygen plants in all district and sub-district hospitals would be  started to check whether these are in working mode or not.
Mushtaq said apart from government measures it is important that people follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that were followed previously to help contain the further spread of the virus by using protective gears like masks and maintaining social distancing.
Over the past one week, the officers of the health department in JK have conducted high-level meetings with senior officials regarding the preparedness for Covid-19.
The current increase in Covid-19 infections in China is being driven by a novel sub-variant of the extremely infectious Omicron variant of coronavirus.
OnDecember the Union Health Ministry directed District Surveillance Officers working in coordination with CMHOs under IDSP to upload facility-wise data for all districts positively by evening of Tuesday, 27 December 2022.
In a communiqué, the health ministry has also asked states and UTs to ramp up whole genome sequencing and ensure that a large number of samples are sent for the same.
