Jammu, Jan 31: The newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to submit their resolutions by February 16 ahead of the first Budget Session of the J&K Union Territory, scheduled to begin on March 3 in Jammu.
All MLAs must also submit their starred and unstarred questions, as well as Private Members’ Bills, by February 10, as per the directive issued by Manoj Pandit, Secretary of the J&K Legislative Assembly, under the J&K Reorganization Act.
For the first time, MLAs will be allowed to raise 10 starred and 10 unstarred questions during the Budget Session. They will also be able to move four resolutions and introduce three Private Members’ Bills each.
The J&K Assembly currently has 88 members instead of 90, as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vacated the Budgam seat, and the Nagrota seat remains vacant following the demise of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana.
Meanwhile, the government has also instructed all MLAs to submit the annual development plan for their constituencies before the start of the session.
The Assembly Secretariat is finalizing the session’s calendar, with discussions in the final stages led by Speaker AR Rather with focus on scheduling holidays and to ensure smooth house proceedings, and managing disruptions during debates. The final calendar is expected to be issued in the coming days.
