A massive forest fire erupted on Friday in Rampura, Rajpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
An official said that firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to contain the flames.
According to an official from the Fire and Emergency department, the fire broke out in compartment 35 of Kenusa Block in Rampura Rajpora of Sopore.
He said that the teams from the Forest department, Forest Protection Force and locals also joined in the firefighting efforts to douse the flames.
A forest official said that no casualties or injuries have been reported as yet.
“The firefighting teams worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage to the forest ecosystem,” he added.
The official said that the immediate cause of the fire is said to be a bonfire lit by some youth in the area
“Rampur Rajpur is a tourist destination and hundreds of people visit the area. Some unidentified youth had lit a bonfire which led to the fire incident in the forest area. The exact damage couldn’t be ascertained yet,” he added.
