Jammu, Sept 23: Mass celebrations were held across Jammu on Saturday by the social organisations and the political parties to celebrate the one hundred and twenty eighth (128th) birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

The Lieutenant Governor (LG) of J&K, Manoj Sinha, also paid tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh.

“Humble tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on his Janm-Jayanti. He was a towering man of ideas and ideals, a harbinger of change, who dedicated his life to welfare of people & made remarkable reforms to uplift society. May his legacy continue to guide us towards a brighter future,” Office of LG J&K wrote on Twitter.

The Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS), the BJP, the Congress Party, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), the Dharmarth Trust and others celebrated the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh in grand style and paid floral tributes to him remembering his contribution and the reforms the Maharaja did for the betterment of the society.

A rally with drum beats was taken out by the YRS activists from Ban Talab to the Tawi Bridge where the statue of the last Dogra ruler is being installed.

Dancing on the drum beats, the YRS activists, attired in traditional Rajput dress, raised slogans like ‘Maharaja Amar Rahey-2’ and ‘Jai Duggar Jai Dogra’.

On reaching the Tawi Bridge, the YRS activists paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh, distributed sweets and danced to the drum beats.

After agitation by the YRS, the Jammu and Kashmir government, had last year, declared holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.

Similarly, the BJP also celebrated the birth anniversary of Hari Singh in grand style by organising different programmes.

Ravinder Raina, J&K BJP President, MP, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Priya Sethi, and other leaders others paid tributes to the Maharaja at Maharaja Hari Singh statue, Tawi Bridge.

In a programme organised at BJP head office, Trikuta Nagar, former Deputy Chief Ministers, Dr. Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta and other leaders paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh and remembered his contribution for the upliftment and betterment of the society.

The great grandson of Maharaj Hari Singh, Ranvijay Singh, who is the trustee of Dharmarth Trust, also visited the statue of Hari Singh near the main Tawi bridge and celebrated the birth anniversary of his great grandfather by offering 128 kg laddu.

“I am praying to god to help us follow the path shown by the Maharaja and keep Jammu and Kashmir prosperous,” he said.
