Ganderbal, July 10: Residents of Sumbal Bala, and Surfraw in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have voiced their anger and aghast over the incomplete macadamization of the link road from Ganiwan to the Sumbal Bala main area.
According to the locals, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department has only macadamized a few meters of the link road, leaving most of it merely patched. This partial effort has left significant portions of the road in poor condition.
Bashir Ahmad Tedwa, a local resident, said, “We have raised this issue multiple times during block diwas and have approached higher officials to ensure the entire stretch from Ganiwan to Sumbal Bala is macadamized. However, only the section from Ganiwan main to the bridge was completed, leaving the rest of the road, which is crucial for around 20 residential areas.

Bashir Ahmad further said that the incomplete road from Sumbal Bala to Ganiwan has been hastily constructed, causing numerous problems for the local residents. The lack of proper road infrastructure has made transportation difficult and unsafe.

The residents are now appealing to the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal to personally intervene and resolve the matter to prevent further difficulties. They hope that with the intervention of higher authorities, the road will finally be completed.

In response, the Executive Engineer of R&B Kangan stated that the department’s funds for road macadamization have been fully utilized. He assured the residents that the road will be properly fixed and mentioned that the contractor responsible for the project has a three-year contract to maintain and complete the road.
