Baramulla, Mar 16: The security forces on Thursday made a significant breakthrough in the fight against narco terrorism along the Line of Control (LoC), after the joint efforts of Baramulla Police and Army Dagger Division led to the recovery of approximately 1 Kilogram of narcotics worth crores of rupees.
A police official said that during a routine area domination patrol in the general vicinity of village Churanda Uri, which is located close to the LoC, security forces discovered a suspicious bag.
“The team of police and army conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area and called in a Narcotics Dog of the Border Security Force, which led to the discovery of the narcotics concealed in the bag,” he said.
The drug haul was reportedly weighing approximately 1 Kilogram, with packaging, and is believed to be worth crores of rupees.
Police said that an FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Uri, and investigations are underway.
The police official said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the drugs were pushed into Kashmir under a well-planned conspiracy by Pakistan-based handlers, with the intention of spreading drug addiction among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier in a crackdown against drug peddlers, the Baramulla Police made multiple arrests and seized significant amounts of contraband substances in separate operations in parts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that on the intervening nights of March 15th and 16th, the police raided the house of Nokhaze Khan Awan in Paranpeelan Uri based on a tip-off regarding the presence of narcotics.
During the search, police recovered 1260 grams of contraband Charas-like substance and took the drug peddler into custody. A case was registered under sections of the NDPS Act, and investigation is ongoing.
In a separate operation, the Baramulla Police intercepted a vehicle near Khanpora Baramulla and arrested two drug peddlers, Irfan Rasool Lone and Amir Ahmad Wani, recovering 20 grams of contraband Brown Sugar-like substance from them. The police seized the vehicle and registered a case under the NDPS Act.
Police said that notorious drug smuggler Rayees Ahmad Khan, who had six cases registered against him, was booked under the J&K PSA and detained at the Central Jail, Kot-Balwal, Jammu.
“He was involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth in Boniyar and other areas of District Baramulla,” police in Baramulla said.
In another operation, the police arrested drug peddler Mohd Amir Lone during naka checking at Khanpora Baramulla and recovered 60 grams of contraband Charas-like substance from him.
The general public of Baramulla has applauded the efforts of the police in their fight against drug peddlers and their commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs from society. Police said that cases have been registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway.
