Jammu, Jan 25: In a grand celebration held at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha marked the 14th National Voters’ Day, extending his greetings to all sections of society and officers of the election department for their efforts in facilitating easier and convenient enrolment.
Addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor emphasized the significance of this year’s National Voters’ Day theme – ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure’. He highlighted that the theme reaffirms the ideals of the founding fathers of the Constitution, emphasising the power of the people in decision-making and shaping their destiny.
“I appeal to all the officers at the registration office to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll,” he added, stressing the importance of comprehensive and inclusive voter registration.
Lt Governor Sinha administered the National Voters’ Day pledge to officials and attendees, congratulating the newly enrolled electors. He commended the Election Department for its commendable efforts, registering 2.31 lakh new electors in Jammu & Kashmir during the Special Summary Roll.
During the event, Lt Governor Sinha laid the foundation stone for the Regional EVM warehouse at Gole, Jammu. The warehouse, with a storage capacity of 5000 EVM/VVPATS, is set to be constructed at a cost of Rs 6.81 crore.
In a moment of recognition, the Lt Governor felicitated Electoral Roll officers and handed over appointment letters to newly appointed Election assistants. The event was graced by the presence of Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India, who conveyed his congratulations through a video message.
Prominent officials including B R Sharma, Election Commissioner J&K; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Pandurang K. Pole, Chief Electoral Officer, and various senior officers were present at the occasion. Bharat Bhushan, Chairman, District Development Council Jammu, along with numerous prominent citizens and youth, added to the vibrancy of the celebration.
The 14th National Voters’ Day celebration in Jammu showcased a collective commitment towards fostering a robust democratic process, with a focus on active and inclusive participation in the electoral system.
