Bandipora, July 27: The district hospital of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is grappling with a severe sanitary crisis as more than 52 washrooms have been plagued by persistent leakage, leading to human waste seeping into critical sections of the hospital.
An official said the leakage of washrooms has been going on for the last several days and it has resulted in human waste seeping into several sections of the hospital, including the Blood Bank.
Medical Superintendent, of District Hospital Bandipora, Dr Sheikh Mushtaq told Rising Kashmir that despite repeated appeals to the R&B (Roads and Buildings) Department and Housing Board, the hospital is yet to receive a response. Although the R&B team visited the hospital to assess the situation, no concrete action has been taken so far, he added.
Expressing concern over the lack of timely intervention, Mushtaq said the leakages pose a significant health hazard for patients and staff alike. “The human waste seepage from the washrooms has reached critical sections of the hospital, causing an unhygienic environment,” he said. “We have communicated the issue to the concerned authorities, but the situation remains dire.”
The leakages have become a major cause for concern among patients, who are worried about their health and well-being while receiving medical care at the hospital. “We come to the hospital seeking treatment and recovery, but the unhygienic conditions make us even more vulnerable to infections,” a patient told Rising Kashmir.
The leaky washrooms not only affect the patients’ well-being but also create a challenging work environment for the medical staff, he said.
