Landslide hit Rezin area of Gund, property worth lakhs damaged

Ganderbal, Feb 19: Property worth lakhswas damaged after a massive landslide hit Rezin area of Gund in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district on late Sunday evening.
An official stated that panic gripped Rezan Village in Gund Tehsil on Sunday evening as a major landslide fell down from a nearby hillside, completely damaging two residential houses and a cowshed, as well as dozens of livestock under the debris. However, there was no report of any causality.
He said the landslides also forced closure of Srinagar-Leh highway and  a large number of  vehicles have been stranded on the both sides of highway due to the landslides.
They said these two houses belonged to Mohd Aslam Barwal and Zahoor Ahmad Raina.
As soon as the information was received at Gund Police,34 Asaam Rifles Gund Company, CRPF along with Tehsil administration reached the spot to review the situation.
They said that they  have shifted the families to safer places, however rescue operation is underway.
The sources said that many cattles buried alive under the landslide.
Meanwhile, locals alleged thatthe APCO company that has constructed the road for the tunnel is  above from the residential area  as  a result, the town is always in danger.
Meanwhile,Police official said  a landslide has triggered at Rezin, Gagangeer, leading to blockage of National Highway. Some houses have been damaged by slide however no loss of life or injury is reported. Area has been cleared, and residents of the affected area have been moved to safer places. Rescue Teams of District Police, SDRF, and CRPF are at the spot. Senior Officers of Revenue and Police are also present on the spot and monitoring the situation closely. National Highway will be cleared with the help of Beacon authorities.
