Srinagar, Dec 7: The first edition of the Kashmir Literature Festival (KLF) commenced at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), marking a historic moment for the region. Organized by the Srikula Foundation, the festival’s theme, “Kashmir—The Ancient Powerhouse of Wisdom,” celebrates the region’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage.
The event provides a platform for engaging discussions, exchanges of ideas, and meaningful interactions. Prominent authors from across the country have gathered to participate, offering book lovers a chance to connect with writers, explore new books, and engage in thought-provoking conversations.
This literary extravaganza not only establishes Srinagar as a hub for intellectual and cultural dialogue but also highlights Kashmir’s legacy as a cradle of wisdom and learning.
The festival schedule is packed with engaging sessions, including insightful panel discussions such as “Kashmir: The Jewel Crown of Bharat” and “Integration or Exclusivity: The Road to Kashmir’s Prosperity.” Renowned speakers, including Lt. Gen. D.P. Pandey (Retd.), Kallol Bhattacharjee, and Dr. S.Y. Quraishi, are sharing their perspectives on various themes.
Adding a poetic and artistic touch to the festival, Dr Henana Berjes delivered a soulful poetry performance, while the day concluded with mesmerizing Bharatanatyam recitals by Aishwarya Attri and Nandana Moulick.
The KLF is more than just a festival—it’s a revival of Kashmir’s position as a global cultural and intellectual centre. By celebrating literature, art, and dialogue, the festival aspires to inspire the youth and rekindle the region’s rich heritage.
The festival features a diverse lineup of literary works, including Shehla Rashid’s debut book “Role Models” and other notable titles such as YODHA: II, The Bose Deception, 1947, 1957: India—the Birth of a Republic, Nehru’s First Recruits, Sharda: Quest for Shared Heritage, India’s Experiment with Democracy, and Temples of Medieval Kashmir.
Speaking about the event, the spokesperson for KLF said, “Our aim is to create a vibrant space where books and communities intersect. Through this festival, we hope to harness the power of stories to bring people together, spark dialogue, and broaden perspectives. KLF is an effort to re-establish Kashmir on the global map as a powerhouse of wisdom.”
Shehla Rashid, expressing her excitement, said, “This is a landmark moment for Kashmir. I feel fortunate that this festival coincides with the release of my first book. It is heartwarming to be a part of a literary festival in my hometown. Previously, I had to travel to other cities for such events, and now we have one here in Kashmir. It’s a wonderful opportunity to inspire the youth and provide creative avenues for them.”
