Srinagar, Feb 05: The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has provided ₹31.87 crore in crop insurance claims to farmers in Jammu & Kashmir during the last financial year as per the data shared by the government.
The scheme, designed to protect farmers from losses due to natural calamities, has settled 98.21% of total claims nationwide since its launch in 2016.
The PMFBY scheme in J&K has helped thousands of farmers recover from crop losses caused by unpredictable weather. Since 2016, a total of ₹56.05 crore in claims have been settled in the Union Territory, ensuring financial stability for affected farmers.
To make the claim process faster and more transparent, the government has integrated the National Crop Insurance Portal with modern technology. The DigiClaim system, launched in 2022, allows real-time settlement of claims, ensuring that compensation reaches farmers directly in their bank accounts.
J&K farmers will benefit from YES-TECH (Yield Estimation System Based on Technology), which uses remote sensing and AI-based analysis to improve the accuracy of crop loss assessments.
WINDS (Weather Information Network and Data System) will also provide hyper-local weather data for better disaster management.
Despite the success of PMFBY, some claims remain pending due to discrepancies in yield data, delayed insurance submissions by banks, and state government funding issues. The government has assured that steps are being taken to resolve these challenges.
Officials have encouraged more farmers in Jammu & Kashmir to enroll in the PMFBY scheme to safeguard their livelihoods against unpredictable weather patterns.
The government aims to expand the integration of land records with digital insurance systems to ensure quicker and more efficient claim settlements.
