Srinagar, July 12: Ghulam Ahmad Mir, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President, on Friday said “severe developmental, economic, political and employment crises have plagued” Jammu * Kashmir.
Speaking at a party workers’ convention in Kapran, Dooru Assembly segment of south Kashmir, Mir said that little progress has been made on the ground since the reorganisation and downgrading of J&K into two Union Territories.
Mir, according to a statement, highlighted the pressing issues faced by the public in Shahbad Bala Dooru and across J&K, including unemployment, price hikes on essential goods, erratic electricity supply, and other developmental challenges. He criticised the Central government for what he termed as its failure to address these critical issues effectively.
“The public grievances and developmental needs are being ignored, leading to widespread disappointment and a sense of isolation among the people,” Mir lamented.
The senior Congress leader urged the Lieutenant Governor administration to prioritise the redressal of public concerns urgently.
Criticising the government’s post-reorganisation promises, Mir asserted, “J&K has regrettably not witnessed the anticipated developments and remains in a state of neglect.” He rebuked claims of development and peace in the region, saying there is a stark disparity between official narratives and ground realities.
Mir called upon the party workers to actively pursue the resolution of public grievances through appropriate channels. He reassured the public that the Congress Party remains committed to restoring democratic processes and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
