Anantnag, July 17: “People living in the upper reaches and other far-flung areas in J&K are living a pathetic life due to the negligent attitude adopted by the administration. There is no seriousness and accountability in the administration when it comes to the fulfillment of people’s needs,” said the former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Monday
According to a statement issued here, Mir while touring various upper reaches in the Dooru segment met scores of local delegations. He was apprised about the shortage of ration, scarcity of drinking water, and poor supply of electricity especially in ST-dominated areas including Shalnad, Anderwan, Kootrein, Tangwad and Aluchiward areas of Dooru Segment and sought immediate attention of the Govt towards these issues of public importance, the statement said.
Mir on the occasion said, “The disconnect between the administration and the common people has added more woes to the people who are unrepresented and unheard in every respect. The government must streamline the functioning of the departments and the concerned helmsmen be directed to perform their duties towards the people with responsibility and transparency to ensure respite to common people.”
The former JKPCC chief castigated the government for failing to reach out to the people, especially in far-flung areas. “Many tall claims are being made with regard to well-being and development of the people, but in reality, they (people) are disappointed over the treatment they are getting from the administration,” he said.
“The failures on the part of the administration to mitigate the suffering of common people is very unfortunate,” Mir said and urged the government to fix accountability in every department to ensure that people’s grievances especially ration shortage, poor supply of electricity, lack of development, extreme joblessness, etc are addressed, on priority basis.
He said elections are the only way forward to ensure the deliverance of justice and representation of people at every appropriate forum. The government must restore statehood to J&K without any further loss of time, he added.
