IUST hosts annual alumni meet

Awantipora, Jan 02: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), hosted its Annual Alumni Meet, bringing together alumni, faculty, and students to celebrate the enduring bond between the department and its graduates.
Dr. Peer Bilal Ahmad, Head of the Department, highlighted the importance of alumni meets, stating that such events bridge the past, present, and future. “Our alumni bring invaluable insights and serve as role models for our students,” he said. The program was moderated by the Departmental Alumni Coordinator, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Chat.
The event featured inspiring addresses by distinguished alumni, including a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in Toronto, Canada, who discussed their cutting-edge research and international academic experience; an Assistant Professor at Lovely Professional University (LPU), who reflected on their academic journey; and a Subject Matter Expert in the Risk Modelling Unit at Chubb Business Services, India, who shared insights into financial risk management.
Mr. Mansoor, a Senior Actuarial Analyst based in New York, addressed the audience, discussing career opportunities in actuarial sciences, sharing insights into skills required, challenges faced, and growth potential in the field. These alumni and others offered invaluable guidance, showcasing the diverse career paths available to graduates of the department.
DC B’la signs MoU with NHPC for dev of border villages
Baramulla, Jan 02: District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NHPC to implement the Creation of 5 Model Border Villages project under NHPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Planning Officer Baramulla, Javed Ahmad, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Uri, Javed Ahmad Rather.
This Rs 2.5 crore project, with Rs 1 crore allocated for FY 2024-25, focuses on upgrading critical infrastructure in border villages, including schools, health centers, Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), sanitation facilities, centralized housing quarters, and the installation of transformers.
The project is scheduled for completion within 8 months, with a possibility of time extensions based on valid justification.
The scope of work includes the upgradation of schools, health centers, and AWCs, enhancing sanitation facilities, construction of centralized housing quarters, and installation of transformers for improved electricity access.
NHPC will provide Rs 1 crore in financial assistance for FY 2024-25, and the District Administration Baramulla will ensure the timely and effective execution of the project.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Baramulla emphasized the importance of such initiatives in empowering rural communities and enhancing infrastructure in remote areas. He lauded NHPC’s CSR efforts and reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
