Srinagar, May 29: A fresh spell of moderate rain lashed plains and higher reaches on Monday, while the Meteorological Department has predicted erratic weather, gusty winds to continue in the region till 2nd June in the region.
Director MeT, Sonam told Rising Kashmir that moderate rain occurred accompanied with hailstorm lashed plains. The prevailing weather conditions will continue till June 02 in Kashmir. Some parts of Kashmir may see strong gusty winds along with hailstorm particularly late afternoon hours on Tuesday, he said.
“On 30th to 31st May there is possibility of widespread intermittent light to moderate rain along with hailstorm & gusty winds at few places. Similarly, from 1st to 2nd June, weather will remain mostly cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain at few places in the region,” he said.
Lotus advised farmers to suspend irrigation in field crops and chemical spraying of Orchards till 31st May to 2nd June.
Waterlogging was also witnessed in several parts of Srinagar after the rainfall.
Owing to cloudy weather conditions on Monday, Kashmir witnessed decline in maximum temperatures, Srinagar recorded 23.9 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 12.0 °C as the minimum temperature.
Pahalgam settled at 22.6°C degrees as maximum temperature and 5.1 °C as minimum temperatures. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 15.4 °C as the maximum temperature and 7.0°C as minimum temperature.
Winter Capital Jammu recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 22.2 °C as the minimum temperature. Katra recorded 32.5 °C and 20.7°C as the minimum temperature.
A traffic police department spokesman said during the past 24 hours, Jammu Srinagar highway remained closed for 03 hours 30 mins due to closure of CN tunnel, slow movement of N44 due to breakdown of 7 HMV’s and movement of nomadic flocks.
On Tuesday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, Passenger and Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
“TCU Jammu, Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Similarly, on the Srinagar-Leh highway, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil on SSG road.
“LMVs will be released from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 0600 hrs. to 0830 hrs. followed by HMVs upto 1030 hrs. and LMVs will be released from Kargil towards Srinagar at 1400 hrs upto 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed between 1700 hrs. and 0600 hrs. It will be followed by HMV’s,” he said.
Similarly on Mughal Road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one way traffic LMVs from Poonch towards Shopian shall be allowed on Mughal Road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla towards Shopian at 7 AM upto 2 PM, it said.
