Kulgam, Nov 02: The honest taxpayers drive the national development, says Deputy Commissioner (DC), Income Tax (IT) Srinagar on Thursday in an awareness programme held in Kulgam in collaboration with district administration.
The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohideen Bhat and DC IT, Srinagar Shakil Ahmad Ganie.
Speaking with reporters DC IT, Srinagar said the awareness programme was held to sensitize the people, employees and others about the importance of tax paying.

Regarding the event, the DC IT said the income tax department relies on these types of outreach programs to ensure effective revenue mobilization. One of the main strategies is reaching out to tax players, DDOs, government employees, etc., to sensitize them and make them aware of their responsibilities and the importance of income tax in the overall scheme of things.

“I want to highlight that an honest taxpayer, when they pay taxes duly and on time, is contributing towards national development. The main idea behind this outreach program was to create awareness so that people understand the importance of tax-paying and can file their returns properly,” he said.

He emphasized the role of the media in this matter, as finance and taxation are crucial government concerns. Without sound finances, the government may face challenges in implementing developmental schemes.

He said, we are duty-bound, and “I can tell you that for the last one or two months, we have been working tirelessly. Our department, along with our team in Srinagar, has been visiting numerous places to meet people and raise awareness about taxes.”

“To counter the notion of not paying taxes, we have integrated technology with human expertise. We aim to capture most of the information, and our databases and data mining tools are robust.

He said that the department is constantly gathering data and information about tax evasion, and the department is actively pursuing it. It’s important for everyone to realize that in today’s era, banking transactions and real estate dealings are all recorded.

Furthermore, he explained that they have identified refund scams through data mining, gathered information about taxpayers who fraudulently obtained refunds, identified the involved DDOs and the department is sending notices and taking necessary actions in this regard.

The Deputy Commissioner, of Income Tax, expressed his gratitude to DC, Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohideen Bhat, along with his team, for making this program possible. The programme was attended by other district officers and other Income tax officers and officials.
