SHGs can play crucial role in enhancing farmer’s income: Dir Agri

Srinagar, June 03: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal Saturday visited different areas including (Khanpeth, Hanjivera, Singhpora) of Pattan sub-division, district Baramulla to take stock of the agriculture scenario in the Sub-division.
He held interaction with the women self help groups (SHGs) at Singhpora zone Khanpeth and took feedback from the women farmers regarding the implementation of woman farmer-centric initiatives by the department and reviewed the performances of these women self-help groups.
Addressing the progressive women farmers, the Director Agriculture said that under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, development of self help groups has been given due consideration. He reiterated the department’s commitment to promote and strengthen women self help groups in agriculture and allied sectors.
During the visit, the Director inspected the Sprinkler irrigation system successfully introduced by the department in some areas of the Pattan sub-division.
He said that the department has already initiated many women farmer centric programmes so that more and more educated women could be attracted towards the agriculture and allied sectors. He said that women self-help groups can play a crucial role in enhancing farmers income and creating employment opportunities.
Director Agriculture asked the concerned officers to take the self help groups on board during the implementation of different programs on ground. He asked them to organize awareness programmes for farmers about the importance of self help groups.
Director agriculture also discussed various schemes and programmes launched by the department for the development of the agriculture sector in the region.
Earlier, Agriculture Extension Officer Zone Khanpeth briefed the Director Agriculture about various interventions by the department in the concerned area for the promotion of agriculture activities.
Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla Yadvinder singh and some other senior officers were present on the occasion.
