Jammu, July 21: In a significant move to enhance access to quality higher education, Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Higher Education Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday inaugurated the IGNOU Learner Support Centre (LSC-12133) at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu.A statement issued here said this is the first IGNOU Learner Support Centre in Jammu division exclusively notified for science-based programmes, including Bachelor of Science (BSCM) and Master of Science in Zoology (MSCZOO). Addressing the gathering, Shantmanu emphasised the role of accessible and flexible education in today’s rapidly evolving academic landscape. He said the Higher Education Department is committed to strengthening the teaching-learning ecosystem across the Union Territory. “The establishment of this support centre reflects our learner-centric approach, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to pursue higher education with ease,” he said. He assured full cooperation from the department in expanding IGNOU’s support network in the region.Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Gupta termed the establishment of the centre as a “new chapter in inclusive education” for the college and the wider community. “The IGNOU centre will enhance academic engagement through counselling, tutorial support, and examination services,” he said.Regional Director Dr. Sandeep Gupta highlighted IGNOU’s broader mission to strengthen distance and open learning in the region. “This collaboration with GGM Science College brings IGNOU’s quality education closer to students and ensures greater inclusivity,” he added. The centre is expected to act as a crucial academic and administrative hub for IGNOU learners in Jammu, offering enhanced support services while promoting the goals of lifelong and inclusive education.
