Jammu, March 04: IBM, the world’s leading MNC which is incubating Lamrin Tech Skills University Punjab (LTSU) as an Anchor Partner, is launching world-class new-age skill programmes in the field of Computer Science Engineering.
The company said it intends to focus on new-age skills under the New Education Policy (NEP) and transforming Indian youth into industry-ready professionals,
Under these programmes, IBM will offer new-age Computer Science Engineering programs with specialization in the emerging fields of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Data Sciences, and Internet-of-Things at LTSU. This was announced during a press interaction at Chandigarh by Mr. Sanjiv Mehta, Advisor & Head of Program Development, Innovation Centre for Education, IBM India. Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Chancellor, Lamrin Tech Skills University, Punjab and Mr. Sanjeeva Singh, Executive Vice President, CSR & Skill Development Financing, NSDC.
Giving details about the new-age industry-oriented programmes by IBM, Mr. Sanjeev Mehta said, “It is for the first time that any Indian university would be offering world-class skill programmes which are designed by the industry to prepare the future generation professionals. The best-in-class and in-depth learning of emerging technologies is the unique feature of the programmes. The industry professionals from IBM would be conducting workshops and lab sessions during the course tenure.”
He elaborated that Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Sciences, Cyber Security and the Internet of Things (IoT) are the most in-demand skills not only in India but all over the world. The expected number of jobs in these high-end technologies by 2027 is 15 lakh. The students would be attending academic classes for 2.5 years at the university campus which will be followed by 6 months of project-based training on live projects in the centre of excellence set up by IBM inside the university premises.
During the last year of the programme, the students will be deployed on the job in the industry and the credits for the same will be awarded by the industry, he said, adding that the students shall also be paid a stipend during the training and OJT.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandeep Singh Kaura, Chancellor, Lamrin Tech Skills University shared with pleasure and lauded the role of IBM in the launch of new-age programmes leading to the successful implementation of NEP 2020 at LTSU. Registration for admission to these prestigious programs will begin on March 06, 2023, till May 31, 2023.
The selection process by IBM for merit-based students is scheduled for June 28-29 and 30, 2023 and the academic session of these courses shall begin from the first week of August 2023. Dr Kaura further said that the programmes will be fully residential for students and the admission process will be fully managed on a merit basis by IBM from the academic session 2023-24 onwards.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sanjeeva Singh of NSDC announced that all these programmes will be entirely funded through collateral-free skill loans by National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) through NBFC which is a partner of LTSU and supports the university to deliver best-of-class courses to students so as to contribute to making India as Skill Capital of the world.
