The picturesque villages of Khadgu Manglu in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as attractive tourist spots with the introduction of local homestay facilities.
This development offers a unique opportunity for tourists and trekkers to experience authentic local culture and support the area’s economy.
Formerly known for its scenic landscapes and vibrant ambiance, Khadgu Manglu in Sopore area of Baramulla district has now extended its offerings to accommodate tourists overnight.
The local community, recognizing the untapped potential for tourism, has taken the initiative to establish homestay facilities.
This allows visitors to immerse themselves in the daily lives of residents and gain a more personalized experience compared to traditional accommodations.
Jahangeer Hassan, a local, said that there are around two homestays right now at Khadgu Manglu villages.
The strategic location of Khadgu Manglu positions it as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding tourist destinations of northern Kashmir.
Travelers can embark on day trips to attractions such as Wular Lake, Manasbal Lake, and the historic town of Sopore, creating a comprehensive tourism circuit.
Jahangeer Hassan told Rising Kashmir that the area, once isolated due to inadequate infrastructure, has gained popularity among trekkers and tourists.
“With the advent of homestays, more visitors are coming to Manglu to experience the local culture and natural beauty while relishing local delicacies,” he said.
Irfan Shah, president of Valley Wanders, an off-road club, highlighted the positive impact of these developments on the local community.
“The introduction of homestay facilities not only generates income and employment opportunities for residents but also fosters sustainable tourism practices,” he said.
He said that this aligns with the global trend of responsible tourism, promoting a lower carbon footprint and channeling tourism revenue back into the local infrastructure and conservation efforts.
