Heavy rains lash Poonch

House collapses, several families shifted to safer locations; admin on high alert

Poonch, Aug 13: continuous heavy rainfall caused the sudden collapse of the residential house of SPO Altaf Hussain Shah, son of Haider Hussain Shahin Ward No. 1 of Gali Pindi area, Poonch, leaving the affected family in severe distress.Meanwhile, in Ward No. 1, Mohalla Bhattan of Bandi Kamaan Khan, a landslide has endangered three more houses. Considering the seriousness of the situation, Poonch District Development Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma directed the Mandi Tehsil administration to take immediate action. Consequently, five affected families were temporarily shifted to Government Middle School Khet to ensure their safety during the ongoing rains.Naib Tehsildar Kamal Verma stated that, following the directions of the District Development Commissioner and Tehsildar Mandi, a team visited the site to conduct a detailed assessment. He added that the administration is making every possible effort to prevent any loss of life during this spell of heavy rains. The Sub-Divisional and Tehsil administrations are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance in all vulnerable areas. Wherever houses are found at risk, residents are being promptly evacuated to safe locations.Furthermore, the administration has assured that all displaced families will be provided with adequate shelter, food, and essential supplies until the situation normalizes.
