Baramulla, June 26: In an effort to ensure the safety and well-being of students, the government and recognized private schools in Baramulla District have been directed to obtain prior permission for organizing picnics, excursions, trekking, and hiking activities.
The directive, issued by the deputy commissioner Baramulla, aims to regulate such outings and minimize the risks associated with them.
An official order from the district commissioner’s office said that under the new guidelines, school heads must apply to the Chief Education Officer in Baramulla, who will review the requests and forward suitable cases to the appropriate authorities for final approval.
“The Superintendent of Police (SSP) will provide a no-objection certificate after assessing the proposed plans,” the order further reads.
The order issued by DC Baramulla said that obtaining proper permission is mandatory before proceeding with any outdoor activities.
“To maintain a safe environment, schools are required to follow a ratio of 1:10, with one escort teacher for every ten students participating in the outing. These designated teachers must carry necessary first aid kits to address any potential medical emergencies.”
“Additionally, parental consent forms must be obtained from all students prior to the excursion,” the order reads.
It said that the responsibility for the well-being of students during the outings lies solely with the school management.
“Any negligence or lapses by the escorting staff will be the school’s responsibility, and they will be held accountable for any untoward incidents that may occur.”
The district authorities have made it clear that any deviation from these instructions will be taken seriously, and strict actions will be taken against those who fail to comply with the regulations.
The directive was issued a day subsequent to the unfortunate death of a student from Baramulla Public School during a picnic in Sonamarg.
